Raymond Yard

Born in New Jersey in 1885, jeweller Raymond Yard started at 13 as an errand boy for Marcus & Co. in Manhattan. Over 20 years, he became the firm's top salesman, known for honesty and expertise. Advised by John D. Rockefeller Jr., Yard opened his own Fifth Avenue store in 1922, serving over 1,000 clients in the first year and expanding in 1926. His wealthy clientele included the Vanderbilts, DuPonts, and Woolworths, plus stars like Joan Crawford and Douglas Fairbanks. Yard retired in 1958, passing the business to partners, then to their heirs. He died in 1964.
